According to his assistant Mike Phelan, Ferguson was 'too distraught' to fulfil his media commitments after United went out of Europe 3-2 on aggregate following Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir's controversial decision to show Nani a straight red card in the second half.
The Portugal winger was also banned for one match by UEFA - which was always the minumum sanction he was going to face - although he could have faced a three-game suspension if a disciplinary commission had deemed his challenge on Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa to be violent conduct.
Ferguson was furious about Cakir's decision to show a red card which he felt swung the tie in Real's favour.
